The Bright Tomorrows App
While at Telethon Kids Institute, Bec Nguyen played a key role as Product Owner and Project Manager for the development and launch of the Bright Tomorrows app, a digital tool funded by the Minderoo Foundation.
The app was designed to support parents and carers with evidence-based activities, tips, and strategies that nurture children’s early brain development. Grounded in research and informed by behavioural science, Bright Tomorrows helps families create positive everyday interactions that lead to brighter futures.
Role & Responsibilities
Bec’s role covered the full lifecycle of the project, including:
Translating child development research into practical product features
Coordinating app developers, UX designers, and researchers to align evidence with technology
Managing stakeholders across research, health, and early childhood sectors
Overseeing user research and testing to ensure accessibility for diverse families
Delivering launch planning, version control, and feature rollouts

The success of Bright Tomorrows was built on strong national and international collaborations, including:

Better Beginnings early literacy program
Goodstart Early Learning childcare network
Department of Health (WA) – distributing flyers with every pregnancy “purple book” across WA
Better Beginnings Reading Program – distributing flyers in book bags given to families during child health nurse check-ups

Bright Tomorrows reached families through a wide-ranging dissemination strategy, including:
Featuring at Telethon Weekend
Community outreach in childcare centres and family fun days
Regional engagement through the Thrive by Five campaign in Geraldton, Karratha, and Broome, as well as outreach in Adelaide
National and local media promotion
Distribution via partner networks across health and education sectors
Outcomes
Bright Tomorrows has achieved over 100,000 downloads, providing families across Australia with evidence-based tools to support children’s early development. The app continues to be recognised as an example of how research, technology, and cross-sector collaboration can come together to deliver lasting social impact.
